Cloudy skies followed the Nopi series from the drop of the green flag. The fourth round at Englishtown, New Jersey was no different. Like Atco, the E-Town Spring Nationals event would be a race within a race with Moroso event squeezed in as well.

Weather again was gloomy at famed Old Bridge Township Raceway Park for the May 3-4 event. The E-Town fans, the best in thebusiness, were patient and waited throughout the weekend. They were rewarded as the sun came out Sunday and provided a beautiful Sunday and excellent race conditions. The Jotech/Scion tC qualified in the top spot with an 8.03 at 178 right off the trailer. This was a
new ET record if Kenny could back it up. The question was answered swiftly as the Jotech/Scion tC won its first round match-up against Tex Blackwell with an 8.10 at 170, earning an additional 20 points before going into the final round against Brian Jimenez to decide who will have the points lead. In the final round, Kenny charged to a quick 8.01 @ 178mph and defeated Jimenez.“That's two of three events this season that we've won while also setting the national ET record,” says a prideful Kenny. “Last season we were consistent and really fast at times. I am impressed this year with how fast, ET-wise, we have been every time we roll off the trailer.” Celebrating the win at the E-Town event would have to wait because the issue at Moroso was unsettled.
The make up race was decisive and kept the Kenny Tran Racing camp in party mode. Lined up against arch enemy Brian Jimenez and his Chevy Cobalt, the Jotech/Scion tC put down a strong 8.06 at 178 against Jimenez's Chevy 8.30 at 166.
Kenny Tran and his Jotech/Scion tC are three out of four in 2008 with only a snapped steering hub keeping the team from a four-straight start. “I'm really excited with all the success. We've been doing this for
a while now and with great support from our Jotech crew and sponsors like Scion to give us a really reliable and fast combination, Skinzwraps, Arias Pistons, Garrett Turbo, Pauter Rods, REV Valvetrain, V&M Cylinder Heads, Q-Power Lubricants, NGK Plugs and Full Race we are looking forward to a productive 2008 season.
Kenny Tran Racing’s next event will be in Dallas, Texas on May 31-June 1 for the Texas Tuner Showdown. The next NOPI race will be at Bandimere Speedway on June 21-22 at Morrison, Colorado. |
