Perfect Dallas NHRA Sport Compact National Event For Kenny Tran The Title chase starts to heat up with four events left in the 2002 championship Kenny Tran launched the Jotech/AC Technic Team into the thick of the national title hunt after having a perfect record at his local event in Ennis Texas. After qualifying in the number one position with a 9.259@ 162.54mph in the highly competitive Hot Rod field Tran went on to score his second NHRA win in 2002. Tran gave his home crowd plenty to cheer about as he worked his way through the elimination rounds. Highlights of the day included a second round match-up against current champion Jo Jo Callos in the Castrol Syntec Integra and a semi-final race against the Venom Civic of Bruce Mortensen. Against the
Castrol car Kenny was in top form. A 0.468 reaction time left Callos at
the line and the Jotech/AC Civic crossed the line with a winning 9.230
@ 162.63mph. The final round saw Trans opponent Viren Singh red-light himself out of the race leaving Tran to cruise to his second NHRA victory of the year and more importantly maximum points towards the title chase. " That was a hard fought victory". Tran said in the winner's circle. " The weather conditions were a problem for most of the teams and the track was not really hooking up very well. The Jotech/AC team worked hard all weekend to get a handle on the conditions and their efforts were rewarded at the end of the day". "We are right back in the fight for the championship now thanks to a perfect weekend in Ennis and we have got four more events to go starting with the Oregon event next week. With the way our car is working and the overall team effort I am looking forward to making a serious run at the title". Tuner, Bob
Norwood certainly had his work cut out in the unpredictable conditions.
" Making the horsepower was not an issue today". Said Norwood.
"This was a perfect example of 'racing the track'. We started the
day out like everyone else but once we had some data on the way the car
was performing we knew we had to back the car down to maximize traction.
Thankfully we managed to dial the Civic in better than our competitors
and Kenny did an awesome job behind the wheel, cutting killer lights and
keeping the car going down the center of the track. .
