Right off
the trailer, Tran's first qualifying round netted the pole position for
the second consecutive race along with a new speed world record with an
amazing elapsed time of 8.60@175mph. There's no doubt that the Quaker
State® Civic is the fastest Front Wheel Drive unibody in the world
for the third time in 3 years in a row. "We found some more hidden
horsepower over the weekend with our engine program and I knew the day
before the race that we were going into uncharter territory and will run
a big number." Tran commented. "The weather conditions was great
and the track was also hooking, I just hope it will stay the same for
tomorrow in eliminations." Sure enough, Tran got what he wished for
apparently because in the first round of elimination day, Tran steered
the Quaker State® Civic to a new personal best E.T of 8.56@171mph.
In the second
round Kenny lined up against JJ Olson Honda Civic in a disappointing loss
due to transmission failure. " Right now, we're fighting as hard
as we could to go through rounds with this OEM transmission until next
year when NHRA will allow us to run our new aftermarket transmission"
Bob Norwood explained.
It was still a good weekend for the Quaker State® race team. Tran
was pleased with the overall performance and we feel like we're very close
to our tune up and will cause some havoc in the Hot Hot Class in the next
few events.
The next race
event is scheduled for October 4-5 at the Old Bridge Township raceway
in Englishtown, NJ.
