"We are
obviously looking forward to racing at our home track especially coming
off our first win of the season at Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago."
Tran said. "I love racing at Ennis and we are looking forward to
racing in front of a home crowd. This will be a night race so we should
see a good turnout and after our win in Vegas I am hoping to do really
well again in Dallas. The car is running great and we are all going to
be having a good time at the races."
Coming into
the Dallas event Tran is in a solid third place in the NHRA Hot Rod championship
with just a few points separating him from the second position Mopar sponsored
Mike Crawford. "We need to beat Crawford by at least one round to
secure second place." Tran's tuner, Bob Norwood explained. "We
have got the new turbo-intercooler setup dialed in nicely now and I think
we are capable of going all of the way to the final again. What we really
need is points right now so I will be looking for a top qualifier bonus
as well as a class win. Kenny is driving really well and the car is ready
so we are looking forward to raising hell in Dallas."
The Quaker
State® Honda Civic will be virtually unchanged from its Vegas winning
tune-up. Crew Chief, Tony Palo is confident that the car is capable of
taking another win.
"We will make a few minor tweaks to the tune-up to dial the engine
in for the weather conditions but that is about it." Palo explained.
"The atmospheric conditions in Vegas are pretty unique with the desert
heat and the altitude so we will have to make adjustments to suite the
conditions in Dallas but I am sure we will be on the pace by the second
round of qualifying. From that point it is just a matter of going rounds
and we think that we are capable of going all of the way to the final.
We need to close the gap on the leaders before we head out to the West
coast for the next two races. That will put us in a perfect position to
challenge for the championship."
The Quaker State® team will also be hosting a BBQ party for sponsors,
and fellow racers in the pits at Ennis on Saturday. "We thought we
would extend a little Texas hospitality to our friends in the sport."
Tran said. "We originally planned to hold an event at Bob Norwood's
place but we figured that it would be a little hard to find for some people
and so we decided to move the party to the track. It should be a lot of
fun. We will have a bunch of Jotech customer cars on display as well.
We have got some real Texas BBQ experts on hand to prepare the food so
it should be a real Texas treat."
The fun and games will kick-off on Friday afternoon with sportsman time
trials and the first heads-up qualifying sessions for the Pro drivers
will start at 6.00 pm.
