Kenny Tran's
Quaker State Hot Rod Ready for Season Opener In Las Vegas
03-05-2002
Garland Texas. In an announcement today Kenny Tran revealed some details
of the 2003 Quaker State-Jotech Honda Civic in advance of the opening
round of the NHRA sport compact series on March 14-15th at Las Vegas.
"The
Quaker State Honda Civic hot rod is ready for action" said Kenny
Tran. "We have been hard at work during the winter break developing
and testing some new technologies for the 2003 NHRA series. Our Quaker
State Honda has been completely re-engineered to extract even more performance
this year and so far we are extremely happy with the results".
"I can't wait for the car to make its debut appearance in Quaker
State colors. Las Vegas should be a blast and will provide us with a perfect
opportunity to show the fans what Quaker State and Jotech Motorsports
can do together with our other sponsors. This year we are receiving assistance
from a number of companies: AC autotechnic, AEBS, Arias Pistons, Quaife,
BCE Cylinder Heads, Rev products, Pauter Rods, Sparco, Full Race, C&R
radiators, and Norwood Autocraft."
Tran's confidence
is high going into the series but he knows that the competition will be
tougher than ever this year. "We have raised our game with a complete
re-think of our hot rod class car. Bob Norwood and Tony Palo have been
burning the midnight oil to complete the rebuild and the car is looking
really good, but I know that the competition has been just as busy and
everybody will be hitting the ground in Vegas with new cars".
"We plan
to go to Vegas with a competitive car but we are also aware that it may
take a few sessions at the track to really dial in our Quaker State Honda.
The car is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. We have made a lot
of changes, the aerodynamics have been re-thought, the chassis is completely
re-worked and we have made some changes in our engine program. The end
result should be a faster car than we ran last year that is easier to
service and will have better consistency".
"I'm sure the fans will love the new Quaker State Honda Civic and
I know we can give them a great show this year".
The NHRA hot
rod class is certainly one of the most competitive in drag racing with
an ever-growing list of contenders. The Quaker State Civic has been equipped
with state-of-the-art Motec data logging equipment to glean as much information
as possible from every pass. Tuning duties in 2003 will, once again, be
the responsibility of renowned supercar builder Bob Norwood.
"We have tried to utilize all of the capabilities of the Motec system
on this year's car". Said Norwood "Along with the other changes
that we have made, it should add up to better times and more consistency.
We are all looking forward to Las Vegas. It's been a long, hard off-season
and the entire team is eager to get back into the thick of things".
The festivities
in Las Vegas officially start on Friday 14th with the Titan Auto Insurance
Midnight Mayhem grudge drags starting at 8.00 p.m. The Quaker State crew
will be on hand to meet the fans and show-off the awesome 2003 Quaker
State Civic hot rod as well as the Quaker State line of high performance
lubrication products.
